Pool Fence Installation Cost

Cost of Pool Fence Installation

A pool fence is an important safety feature for any swimming pool. The cost of swimming pool fencing installation will depend on a number of factors. Use the list below to help you determine the cost of your project. Before hiring any contractor, make sure they have the necessary licenses and liability insurance.

1. Regional cost differences. The cost of living in your area will have a big impact on the cost of installing a pool fence. For instance, the cost in Honolulu, Hawaii will be much higher than say, Knoxville, TN.

2. Are you replacing another fence? The removal of the existing fencing will add to the cost of your project.

3. Fence height. Building a taller fence will increase the cost of installation. However, these taller fences provide additional security and privacy.

4. Linear footage of fencing. Larger pools will require more fencing. Most contractors will give you a quote based on the linear footage of fencing required.

5. Do you need a removable fence? Some pool fences are designed to be removed during the off-season. These custom fences can be somewhat more expensive.

6. Fence material. There are many different fencing materials to choose from, including 1) aluminum fencing, 2) wood fencing, 3) decorative glass, 4) mesh safety fencing, 5) vinyl (or PVC) fencing, 6) wrought iron fencing, or 7) chain link fencing. While wood fencing is very affordable, wrought iron or decorative glass barriers can be very expensive.

7. Gate installation. Gates are not typically included in the cost of fence installation. Self-closing gates and gates with child safety locks can be pretty pricey. Depending on the layout of your yard, you may need to install more than one gate.

8. Alarm installation. Do you want to install a motion detector or alarm? This feature can provide additional safety and security. The alarm will sound in the gate is ever left open.

9. Surrounding terrain. Are there any obstacles around the pool that might make the installation more difficult? Tree roots? Clay soil? Hills? Rocks? Major obstructions will add to the overall cost of the fencing project.

10. Local building codes. Pool fence regulations can vary greatly. Your homeowner’s association or local jurisdiction may set certain rules or safety standards about pool fences. Make sure to ask your contractor about these rules before beginning your project.
